Hanbo is a cryptid reported from Saitama, Japan.

Description

On September 14, 2022, occult researcher Yuki Yoshida (吉田悠軌, Yuuki Yoshida) asked on Twitter if anyone knew anything about a creature called "Hanbo" that is rumored among children in Saitama Prefecture.

According to his description, the Hanbo is a caterpillar-like creature about the size of an adult's arm. Its body is black with red and blue spots that release venom. People who touch the creature die in about 10 days, and it is believed by some children that people have actually died from contact with Hanbo. The creature is carnivorous and preys on crows.

Several people who responded to Yoshida's call for information suggested moth larvae and tiger keelback as possible candidates, but in the end Hanbo's true identity was never determined. During this discussion, it was also discovered that there is a cryptid with a similar name, "Hanba," in the Kyushu region.
